Heat pumps: worth it for winter range?

I'm on the fence about my next EV. I keep seeing conflicting info about heat pumps. Some say they're a game-changer for winter range, others say the savings are minimal unless you drive in really cold climates. I live in the Pacific Northwest, so we see a lot of damp, 30-40°F days, but not brutal sub-zero temps. Is the extra cost justified? Also, do they make a real difference for short trips where the cabin needs to warm up quickly, or is that where they actually lose out to resistive heaters? Curious what real-world owners are seeing on their efficiency screens.
