Winter range drop worse than expected?

Picked up my EV in June and loved it, but now that temps have dropped to single digits, I'm seeing almost 30% less range than the official figures. I knew winter would affect it, but this feels extreme. My daily commute is fine, but a planned trip to the in-laws over the holidays now needs an extra charging stop I wasn't counting on. Is this just the reality of winter driving, or should I be looking at something like a heat pump or preconditioning more aggressively? I've also noticed the regen braking feels weaker when the battery is cold. Anyone else seeing similar numbers, or got tips to claw back some miles? I'm starting to think the real-world winter range is something buyers need to be told about more honestly.
