Home charging vs public charging: the real cost breakdown

I see a lot of talk about how home charging is always cheaper, but nobody seems to factor in the installation cost of a Level 2 charger, especially if your panel needs an upgrade. For me, that’s an extra $2,500 upfront. Public fast charging is more expensive per kWh, but if you can charge at work for free or cheap, the math changes. Also, what about apartment dwellers who rely entirely on public networks? Is the savings gap actually shrinking with time-of-use rates and demand charges? I’m trying to decide if it’s worth investing in a home setup or just sticking with public chargers for the first year. What’s your experience?
