I keep going back and forth on this. My Leaf without a heat pump drops to about 60% range in -10°C, and I'm seeing people with heat pump equipped cars claim only 75% loss. That's a big difference on a 300 km trip. But the heat pump adds cost and complexity. Does anyone have real-world data comparing same model with and without? Or is the cold battery pack the bigger killer anyway? I'm trying to decide if my next EV absolutely needs one, or if I should just bundle up and use the seat heater. Curious what your experiences are with pre-conditioning on a timer vs just blasting the resistive heater on the go.
Winter range loss: Is the heat pump actually worth it?
