WLTP to EPA range converter
A WLTP range figure is about 37 % higher than the same car's EPA figure. Example: 400 km WLTP is about 292 km EPA.
WLTP to EPA conversion table
| WLTP (km) | EPA (km) | Winter estimate (km) |
|---|---|---|
| 150 | 110 | 82 |
| 200 | 146 | 110 |
| 250 | 183 | 137 |
| 300 | 219 | 164 |
| 350 | 256 | 192 |
| 400 | 292 | 219 |
| 450 | 329 | 246 |
| 500 | 365 | 274 |
| 550 | 402 | 301 |
| 600 | 438 | 329 |
| 650 | 475 | 356 |
| 700 | 511 | 383 |
| 750 | 548 | 411 |
| 800 | 584 | 438 |
Formula: EPA range = WLTP range × 0.730. The winter estimate assumes about 25 % less than the converted figure.
What are WLTP and EPA?
WLTP
WLTP is the European standard since 2017. It mixes urban, suburban and motorway driving at speeds up to 131 km/h and is the figure on EU price lists. It is a fair reference, though everyday range is usually 10–20 % lower.
EPA
EPA is the US standard. It applies an extra correction to the lab result, which makes it the most conservative of the four and the closest to what drivers see in mixed real-world use.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert WLTP to EPA?
Multiply the WLTP figure by 0.730. For example, 400 km WLTP × 0.730 = 292 km EPA. This is an average ratio: individual cars can differ by several percent.
Which figure is closest to real-world range?
EPA is the most conservative and usually the closest to mixed everyday driving. In winter, on the motorway or with a heavy load, expect a further 20–30 % less than any of these figures.
Why do the standards give different results?
Each standard uses a different test cycle: speeds, acceleration, temperature and how the lab result is adjusted differ. The car is the same; the yardstick is not.
