Vauxhall introduces the new Frontera model, which promises to change the perspective on the affordability of electric vehicles. For the first time in the British market, it offers electric and hybrid versions at the same price, eliminating the usual price difference between these types of powertrains.
Same Price, Different Powertrains
Vauxhall comes with a breakthrough strategy - the new Frontera Electric and Frontera Hybrid will be available at an identical price starting from £23,495, approximately €28,000. With this move, Vauxhall eliminates the price difference that usually amounts to an average of 31% in favor of vehicles with internal combustion engines.
James Taylor, Managing Director of Vauxhall, stated: "Vauxhall is a leader in democratizing access to electric vehicles. With the introduction of the new Frontera model, we have removed the price premium that often applies to electric vehicles."
Exterior Design and Interior Space
The new Frontera brings a robust interpretation of Vauxhall's "Bold and Pure" design philosophy. The front of the vehicle features the characteristic Vizor element, which smoothly transitions into LED headlights. Pronounced fenders and the C-pillar line emphasize the vehicle's robust character.
With a length of 4,380 mm, the Frontera sits between the Mokka and Grandland models in Vauxhall's renewed SUV lineup. Despite its compact dimensions, the Frontera offers more luggage space than the Astra Sports Tourer Electric - up to 1,594 liters with the rear seats folded down.
Rich Equipment and Modern Interior
The Frontera's interior continues with a modern design emphasizing spaciousness and comfort. The Pure Panel cockpit includes a newly designed steering wheel and two 10-inch displays. Standard equipment includes satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging.
The model is available in two trim levels - Design and GS. Even the basic Design version offers a range of assistance systems, including rear parking sensors, a rear parking camera, and a lane-keeping system.
Efficient Powertrains
The Frontera is available with either a hybrid powertrain with 48V technology or a fully electric powertrain. The hybrid version combines a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo engine with a 21kW electric motor integrated into the six-speed automatic transmission.
The electric version offers a 113 horsepower motor and a range of up to 300 km (WLTP preliminary) with a 44 kWh battery. Charging from 20 to 80% takes just 26 minutes when using a 100kW fast charger.
Plug & Go: Facilitating the Transition to Electromobility
Vauxhall offers the Plug & Go program, which includes free installation of an Octopus Energy Ohme Pro home charger with online purchases. Alternatively, customers can choose a one-year charging credit at Tesco stores or a £675 (approximately €810) credit for charging through the Octopus Electroverse service.
Thanks to a partnership with Tesco, customers can receive 50,000 Clubcard points when purchasing a new car from a Vauxhall dealer, representing a value of up to £1,000 (approximately €1,200) when used with Clubcard Rewards partners.
Conclusion
The new Vauxhall Frontera represents a significant step towards more affordable electric vehicles. By combining attractive design, spacious interior, and an innovative approach to pricing policy, it has the potential to appeal to a wide range of customers and accelerate the transition to electromobility in the British market.
