Is 12C charging safe for daily use?
FAW claims the liquid cooling system kept temperature differences within 5.4°F during the test, which suggests good thermal management. However, repeated 12C charging will accelerate degradation — CATL's Shenxing Gen 3 claims 90% retention after 1,000 cycles, but that's at lower C-rates. Real-world longevity data doesn't exist yet.
Will existing European chargers work with a 12C battery?
Yes, but at much lower speeds. A 12C battery can accept whatever power the charger delivers — it just won't reach its peak without a 1 MW station. On a 350 kW charger, an 80 kWh pack would charge at roughly 4.4C, still fast but not record-breaking.
How does this compare to the Volkswagen ID. Polo's charging speed?
The upcoming Volkswagen ID. Polo is expected to charge at around 125 kW peak on its 800V architecture — roughly 2.5C for a 50 kWh pack. Hongqi's lab battery is nearly 5x faster, but the ID. Polo will actually be on sale in Europe next year with real charging infrastructure.
