Volkswagen's Chinese joint venture FAW-Volkswagen has opened pre-sales of the Jetta M6, the first fully electric model of its Jetta brand. The 4.8-metre sedan is priced from 80,800 yuan (about €10,600) to 99,800 yuan (about €13,100). These are pre-sale prices for the Chinese market; the official launch is planned for mid-October.

What the Jetta M6 offers

According to CnEVPost and electrive, the M6 is a front-wheel-drive fastback sedan, 4,806 mm long, 1,500 mm high and with a 2,820 mm wheelbase. It is sold in three versions named after their range in the Chinese CLTC cycle: 465 Pro, 555 Max and 555 Ultra.

  • Drive: a single motor with 113 or 145 kW; the type-approval filing lists a top speed of 166 or 172 km/h,
  • Battery: cells from CALB, packs assembled by the joint venture; capacities have not been published in the sources we reviewed,
  • Weight: 1,557 to 1,628 kg,
  • Cabin: a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster,
  • Assistance: a Horizon Robotics Journey 6M chip with a camera-only system for highway and urban navigation assistance.

How the price compares with Europe's cheapest EVs

The M6 starts at roughly half the list price of the Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric. The comparison needs caution, though: the M6 is a mid-size sedan, while the Renault Twingo is a city car, and the Chinese price is a pre-sale figure.

Sources: electrive (Jetta M6 conversion), Renault (Twingo E-Tech Electric from €19,490), Electrek (ID. Polo Trend from €24,995). The Twingo has a 27.5 kWh battery and 263 km WLTP range; the ID. Polo Trend has 37 kWh and 334 km WLTP.

The M6's range figures of 465 and 555 km are CLTC values and cannot be compared with WLTP. CLTC is a more generous cycle, so real-world and WLTP ranges will be lower. The sources give no WLTP number and no DC charging data for the M6.

Why Volkswagen needs a cheap EV in China

Jetta was set up in 2019 as an independent FAW-Volkswagen brand selling petrol cars in China. CarNewsChina reports that it delivered 47,811 vehicles in the first half of 2026, down 13.1 % year on year. Volkswagen's China wholesale sales in June stood at 102,840 units, down 41.4 %.

The brand plans five new models by 2028, four of them electrified, and a medium-term target of 400,000 to 500,000 vehicles a year. The M6 targets the entry-level segment around 100,000 yuan, where it will compete with models such as the Xpeng Mona M03 and the MG 07.

What we do not know

Nothing in the sources we reviewed points to a European launch of the M6. Volkswagen's own affordable electric models for Europe, such as the ID. Polo, are a different line. The pre-sale offer in China includes a 1,000-yuan deposit counted as 2,000 yuan towards the price and perks worth about 11,000 yuan, so final retail prices may differ after the October launch.

Will the Jetta M6 be sold in Europe?

No European plans have been announced. Jetta is a brand of the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture aimed at the Chinese market, and the M6 is currently offered there only.

Can the Chinese price be used to estimate a European price?

No. A currency conversion shows the gap between markets, not what the car would cost here. Homologation, taxes, import costs and retail margins would all be added, and the equipment would have to meet European rules.
